Appia Gateway
Pay With Transfer, done properly.
The bank transfer is Nigeria’s most trusted payment method and its worst-reconciled one. Appia Gateway fixes the reconciliation, so you can just take the transfer.
01 — The model
Every charge gets its own account number.
A number and an expected amount, paired. That pairing is what lets us attribute a payment with no human in the loop — not a customer typing a reference, not your support team matching a screenshot to an order.
We match on the bank’s own initiation reference, not on the account number, because providers recycle account numbers. Matching on a recycled number is how you credit the wrong order.
Per order
A fresh number
Not per customer. One order, one number, one expected amount.
Valid for
30 minutes
Then marked expired — but see below, because expiry is not what it sounds like.
Issued by
Providus Bank
A real Nigerian bank account number, in a bank app your customer already trusts.
02 — The window
Expiry is a label, not a locked door.
A late payment still settles and still credits you.
A charge stays open for 30 minutes, then we mark it expired and sweep it. We are telling you the countdown ended — we are not refusing the money. Funds your customer actually sent do not vanish because a timer ran out, and you do not have to explain that to them.
03 — Amount handling
Every case, stated.
Customers pay the wrong amount. It is the single most common thing that goes wrong on a transfer rail, so here is exactly what happens in each case.
| What happened | What we do | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Paid exactly | Settles. You’re credited. | completed |
| Paid more | Settles. You’re credited the full amount received; the fee is recomputed on the larger figure. | completed |
| Paid less | Returned to the sender automatically. You are not credited, and it is reported as its own webhook event. | amount_mismatch |
| Paid late | Still settles and still credits you. | expired → credited |
| Unmatchable | Quarantined in a suspense queue and resolved by a human — never silently absorbed. | suspense |
04 — Where it lands
An ordinary wallet, not a processor balance.
Collections credit your ordinary Appia naira wallet — the same balance you can transfer from, pay bills with and fund payouts from. Not a walled-off processor balance waiting on a cycle.
The fee is debited as its own ledger line, so you reconcile two clean entries rather than working backwards from a net figure.
- Spendable
- Immediately
- Fee posts as
- Its own line
05 — Statuses
Four statuses. No ambiguity.
- initialized
- Awaiting payment. The account number is live and the window is open.
- completed
- Paid and credited to your wallet.
- amount_mismatch
- Underpaid and returned to the sender. You are not credited.
- expired
- The 30-minute window lapsed. A late payment still settles and still credits you.
Take the transfer. We’ll handle the rest.
